Flowers hold a special place in human life and are widely valued for their aesthetic, cultural, social, and commercial significance. To promote modern floriculture practices and provide practical learning opportunities, Lokmangal College of Agriculture has established a high-tech polyhouse spread across 2 acres of land.
The college specializes in the cultivation of Gerbera, a popular ornamental flowering plant known for its attractive daisy-like blooms and high market demand. Gerbera cultivation under protected conditions enables the production of high-quality flowers throughout the year.
The polyhouse houses six premium varieties of Gerbera, including:
- Dalma – White
- Donna Ellen – Yellow
- Rosalin – Pink
- Savannah – Red
- Cream Clementine – Cream White
- Maron Clementine – Orange
The Floriculture Unit serves as a practical training and demonstration center where students gain hands-on experience in protected cultivation techniques, flower production, crop management, harvesting, grading, and marketing. It also provides valuable exposure to modern greenhouse technologies and commercial floriculture practices.
Through this initiative, the college promotes entrepreneurship, skill development, and research in floriculture while contributing to the advancement of the ornamental horticulture sector.
