Solid Waste Management

Lokmangal College of Agriculture is committed to sustainable environmental practices through the effective management of solid waste and the generation of renewable energy. The college has established a 100 m³ capacity Biogas Plant, which utilizes organic waste generated from the campus, including hostel waste, mess waste, agricultural residues, and other biodegradable materials.

The campus generates approximately 200 kg of solid waste per day, primarily consisting of kitchen waste, tree litter, lawn maintenance residues, and agricultural waste. In addition, recyclable materials such as paper and plastic bottles are collected separately through a source-segregation system. Dedicated dustbins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable (plastic) waste are placed across the campus to ensure efficient waste management.

The biogas plant converts biodegradable waste into clean and renewable energy, while the by-products can be used as organic manure for agricultural purposes. This initiative not only reduces waste disposal issues but also promotes sustainable resource utilization and environmental conservation.

The primary objective of the Solid Waste Management System is to create a clean, healthy, and eco-friendly campus environment while fostering environmental awareness among students and staff. Through proper waste segregation, recycling, composting, and biogas generation, the college actively contributes to environmental protection, resource conservation, and sustainable campus development.
